Business Consultant – Alternative Investments

– Report to Business Consultants Team Lead (direct) and Chief Operations Officer (indirect)

A role exists for a Business Consultant within Methys South Africa Alternative Investments business line with a good history and strong Alternative Investments Team. The successful candidate will be permanently based in Cape Town.

Business Consultants, who forms part of the Alternative Investments Team at Methys are expected to be organized and efficient, managing multiple client assignments at once. The business consultant is typically a seasoned professional with an acquired experience in the financial services industry. The ability to clearly convey market best practices and to engage with technical teams in order to maximize the value of our standard products is key.

These responsibilities include (and are not limited to):
– Provide consulting services to Methys’s clients via multiple software implementations across the region.
– Act as an advisor to Methys’s clients; analyse and document business requirements whilst providing constructive – advice on market and product best practices to optimize time to value
– Interpret client needs and follow through on issues and requests in a professional and consultative manner.
– Document and effectively communicate client business needs to Methys’s technical implementation team.
– Become a true subject matter expert in relation to products and services.
– Collaborate effectively with all members of the Alternative Investments team, helping to build a supportive, disciplined, commercially-focused team environment.
– Be analytical and an excellent communicator
– Have a business acumen and problem-solving aptitude
– Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
– Requirements Analysis and Specification: The business identifies a need; Do feasibility studies in conjunction with the business; Do research to establish the impact on other systems; Do requirement analysis.
– Provide User Support: Deal with user problems reported, even outside normal working hours; Assist with troubleshooting.
– Personal Development: Adhere to Training and Development Plan; Take ownership for self-development.
– Innovation: Assist in proposal, POC and final implementation of innovative solutions.


– Previous experience implementing financial software a plus
– Bachelor’s degree, preferably in financial services, corporate finance, or fund accounting
– 3-5+ years’ experience in finance or Private Equity industry
– Previous experience implementing financial software a plus
– A proven problem solver who can deliver solutions in a courteous and timely manner
– Exceptional analytical aptitude and attention to detail
– Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills
– Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task and perform well under pressure
– Previous experience working in a small, entrepreneurial environment, preferred
– Ability to travel.


– Project management a plus, but not a requirement
– Software dev background (Preferably VB.NET or C#) a plus, but not a requirement
– Data analysis
– Microsoft Excel advanced skills
– SQL programming a plus, but not a requirement
